Dehumidification System

Dehumidification System

Industrial dehumidifiers regulate humidity and improve the quality of air in large spaces such as manufacturing plants and warehouses. Without dehumidifiers, the excess moisture in the air can cause mold and mildew damage and corrosion or negatively impact product quality. Dehumidification systems for industrial application are typically installed permanently and they require ductwork to evenly distribute dehumidified air.

Due to their importance, it’s important to get in touch with the right professionals when looking to install a dehumidification system. The professional can accurately assess your needs and recommend a custom systema and dehumidification technology that will suit your needs.

What Are Dehumidifiers?

A dehumidifier is a cross between a vacuum cleaner and an air conditioner. It is designed to suck in air from one end of a room, remove the moisture from it and then blow it back out into the room again. The extracted moisture then drips through into a collection tank.

Dehumidifiers work by cooling the air to remove moisture or by absorbing or adsorbing moisture. There are two main types of dehumidifiers to choose from for your facility:

 Refrigerant Dehumidifiers

Refrigerant dehumidifiers are a highly effective and energy-efficient method of controlling humidity. They work by cooling air to the point where the vapor contained in air begins to condense. The condensed water is then drained and the dry air is reheated and returned to the internal space.

Refrigerant dehumidifiers are most effective in warmer spaces (higher than 15°C) because they need the cold surface within the dehumidifier to be colder than the room air. When the temperature in that space becomes too cold, the dehumidifier wastes energy trying to defrost the dehumidifier coils.

Desiccant Dehumidifiers

Desiccant dehumidifiers work differently. They extract water from the air by using an adsorbent material that sucks in water from the air. This ventilation systems kind of works like desiccant packs that absorb moisture to keep products safe. With desiccant dehumidifiers moisture that is absorbed from the air drips into a water condenser.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are more effective in colder temperatures so they work great in indoor places like conservatories, garages, or sheds.

Factors to consider when selecting a dehumidifier

As already mentioned, the best approach to installing a dehumidification system is approaching professionals for a custom system that’ll suit your needs. Here are a few factors to consider when selecting a system:

  • Desired room temperature and dew point
  • Internal moisture and number of workers
  • Size of the facility
  • Construction material
  • Weather and climate of the location
